Partnership enables cutting-edge digital solution for extending temperature-controlled delivery for a sustainable future
Toronto, ON – 2023-06-30 – Today HydroCool Ltd., a Canadian CleanTech startup, along with their partner, Invotek Group, announce plans to develop an intelligent, zero-carbon, mobile refrigeration system. This new and sustainable solution will keep food fresh or frozen while transporting under any conditions.
The new Transportation Refrigeration Unit (TRU) from HydroCool will use predictive control methods to maximize energy efficiency and optimize route recommendations to minimize food waste.
“This innovative platform will change the way we think about time sensitive, perishable product delivery,” says Will Harney, CEO and Co-Founder at HydroCool.
“We’re excited at Invotek to be investing with HydroCool to bring this TRU to life in the digital economy. The complete combination of a renewable energy system and a smart digital IoT product provides a solution for current and future demands,” says Paul LaCroix, CEO at Invotek Group.
Extended food delivery
This hydrogen-powered TRU and AI-enabled platform-based control solution will reduce weight, increase zero emission cold chain mobile range, stand by duration, and increase durability while refrigerating—or heating—cargo in a refrigerated trailer. One of the most exciting implications will be enhanced affordable food delivery to remote communities, making food and medicine more accessible to the people living there while reducing product waste that can be created during delivery.
Zero carbon emissions
With zero CO2 emissions, the HydroCool mobile refrigeration system will decarbonize mobile links in the cold chain by helping to eliminate traditional diesel-powered TRUs. In addition to reducing CO2 and climate change associated with the cold chain, hydrogen will significantly reduce PM2.5 and NOx emissions associated with current diesel TRUs. As more countries commit to lowering emissions and begin to implement net-zero policies, this innovation will provide a future-proofing solution for fresh and frozen goods transport.
Hydrogen-powered
Powered by hydrogen and enabled by AI, this dynamic TRU from HydroCool will operate efficiently in severe cold where fresh food cargo requires heating to prevent freezing and displace diesel-powered units at lower cost. HydroCool and Invotek Group plan to engineer and manufacture the first hydrogen-powered TRU in Canada.
Partnered for the future
HydroCool and Invotek Group are excited to announce work on this progressive solution that will help countries reach their carbon neutral objectives and improve their social objectives by reducing respiratory illness of their residents caused by diesel engine emissions.
