The latest project between MARA and Nuvation involves complex assembly and testing and underscores the successful, long-term collaboration between the companies and plans for future expansion.
MARA Technologies, part of the Invotek Group Inc. family, has recently partnered with Nuvation Energy, a leading provider of battery and energy management solutions to energy storage system integrators and battery manufacturers. This further builds upon the long-standing partnership between MARA and Nuvation Engineering, a leading full system electronic design company that provides hardware design, software development, and field programmable gate array (FPGA) design services for electronic product development. Nuvation chose MARA for their strong technical background and reliable service to scale a new product from prototyping to full production in four months. The long-standing partnership along with MARA’s in-house capabilities and proximity to Nuvation’s Ontario location were key factors.
Reliable partner for quality and service
Nuvation was launching a new generation product family and needed a reliable partner with a strong technical background to help them scale. They already had a trusted relationship with MARA, which has the in-house capabilities to build their electronics and the capacity for large backend support, including testing, final mechanical assembly, warehousing, and direct fulfillment. MARA could start at one volume point but also scale and ramp up quickly, developing and moving at the pace Nuvation required.
“We chose MARA based on our long-standing partnership and for their exceptional quality and service,” explains Michael Hermann, COO at Nuvation. “Based on years of successfully launching large projects, this partnership is a natural fit, and our relationship extends right to the top. Their expertise ensures our products meet the highest standards, allowing us to focus on innovation and growth with confidence. This continued collaboration underscores our commitment to excellence and reliability in every project.”
Location was also a factor in the decision. To meet customer demand, MARA recently opened a second facility in the Greater Toronto Area. They considered the convenience and reassurance of having a trusted partner close by a major benefit. Nuvation is also located in Silicon Valley, California with an extensive US customer base and, for the future, may also leverage additional production capacity at our MARA USA facility in Holly, Michigan.
Complex project up and running in four months
At MARA, the complex Nuvation project ranges from surface mount technology (SMT) to final integration, testing, and direct fulfillment, resulting in the Nuvation Energy G5 High-Voltage BMS platform. Designed specifically for lithium-ion battery chemistries, this new fifth-generation battery management system (BMS) supports up to 1500 V DC battery stacks and modules that use cells in the 1.6 V-4.3 V range. Each unit comprises multiple complex sub-assemblies. All of these sub assemblies are then integrated into the final unit, which undergoes rigorous testing, burn-in, packaging, and direct fulfillment.
“With Invotek Group’s extensive experience in the energy industry, partnering with Nuvation made a lot of sense,” said Paul LaCroix, CEO of Invotek Group. “This project progressed from prototyping to full production in approximately four months, showcasing our efficiency and commitment. Invotek dedicated a team to the project, as we do with all our customers, ensuring focused attention and specialized expertise. The two companies are now discussing expansion plans to handle the anticipated growth, highlighting the strength and potential of our collaboration.”
